This is obviously the most famous Japanese whisky brand all over the world. Yamazaki is name of the place located west side of Kyoto where Mr. Torii the founder of Suntory started their 1st whisky distillery in 1923. In this place they launched their 1st single malt Yamazaki in 1984. The features of Yamazaki is the special rich aroma comes from mizunara oak. This is Japanese origin Acorn tree and Suntory used this wood as the whisky cask for the first time in the world.
At the beginning, Yamazaki was not so popular even in Japan. But today the Yamazaki ( official retail price 4200 yen ) is sold on Japanese internet website for 7500 – 8000 JP yen!
After 2003 , the year Yamazaki won the IWC GOLD, the brand name Yamazaki rapidly spread all over the world and today it is one of the most well known whisky brand all over the world. Recently in 2018, Yamazaki 50 years, the original price was 1,000,000 JP yen (about USD 10,000) , was sold at international auction for about 32,500,000 JP yen ( about USD 325,000 ) at the auction.
Today, as Suntory’s normal lineup, Yamazaki (non age) , Yamazaki 12 years, Yamazaki 18 years and Yamazaki 25 years are sold in Japan, but due to shortage of their whisky, the supply volume from Suntory us ultimately small. So if you find Yamazaki at official price 4200 yen at store in Japan, you have to buy them all!
