Suntory has two single malt whisky brands. One is Yamazaki which comes from Kyoto since 1987, and the other is Hakushu from Hakushu distillery located in Yamanashi, west part of Tokyo, Japan.
Hakushu distitillery locataed in Yamasashi, 100 km west side of Tokyo, known as lots of beautiful mountains, clean water and also sweet fruits. The distillery is founded in 1973 by 2nd Suntory president Mr.Sato with the concept of ” Distillery in Forest “. The feature of this single malt is very mild aroma of peat which reminds us of mint.
In Japan, it is popular to drink Hakushu whisky with soda and with a mint leaf. Suntory named this way of drinking as “Highball with fragrance of forest”.
Due to serious lack of Yamazaki brand, Hakushu got attention from many customers in 2016 and 2017, but it did not take so much time until we had serious lack of Hakushu. Today, the vintage bottles like Hakushu 12 years or 18 years are very difficult to get as much as Yamazaki vintage.
